Framing + Matting Your New Print

Framing a new print can seem like a daunting task, but here are a few tips to make it super easy and not nearly as expensive as a custom framing shop!

My favorite places to buy frames are Goodwill (yes, it can be a gold mine with a little creativity and chalk paint in hand!), Michaels, Hobby Lobby, Pottery Barn and World Market. And if you're able I always recommend your local frame shop. We have a discount frame shop in our town and I can grab a used frame for $10-$20 and have them cut a piece of glass for $5.

Find a frame larger than your print so that you can add a mat. For example, if your new print is 12" x 12", I would recommend a mat that is 16" x 16" and have it cut with a 12" x 12" opening in the middle. (Actually you'd want it to be 11-1/2" x 11-1/2" so that there is a 1/4" inch overlap around the edges of your print.) This will give you a lovely 2" border around your framed print!

I can't wait to see what you do with your new print! Please share on your favorite social and tag me!

xoxo
